Aurora Sweater part IV- Be Adaptable!
So- this f'ing cold will not go away!! and if you think i'm such a fanatic that i'm making this insane sweater from my deathbed...i'm not. i'm not that kind of hero. these picks are from a few days ago. the most i can do is blog and check about 4 emails. then i'm out. until the other sicko's wake up....

there is this really interesting thing that happens with small children when they see that maybe their mother can't take care of them because she is sick and passed out on the couch... they start screaming!! yes. screaming!! for no reason. it is a survival technique to ensure that the mother jumps off the couch and rushes to their aid assuring their tiny psyche's that no no no...mommy will not let you freeze in the snow and get eaten by wolves. once they are assured of this- that they will not freeze and be eaten...they calm down a little. but through out the day every 2-3 minutes they are compelled to ask the mother for things they don't really want: food, juice, phone, pickle. over and over: food, juice, phone....pickle! if the mother does not react immediately to the offspring's cries then the survival behavior kicks in again and the young throw themselves on the ground screaming and kicking, tearing at their hair and at their mother's long johns. their screams! so loud! don't let them get froze and eaten!! the mother rolls off the couch and on to the floor. the children scream even louder because now it is obvious that the mother will not be able to keep them alive on this wilderness and it's over. over!! waaaaaaaaaaaa! what's that noise? the mother stirs.....takes from her pocket a handful of sugery cough drops. silence. ooooo! coch-gocks! coch-gocks! the shortlings grab the coch-gocks and scamper into the closet to eat them. leaving the mother to nap in the tissues on the floor....

Sweater Progress:
So the way i was sewing it before was really pretty but over all it was way too big and crazy for the whole sweater. i'm going for cave-girl...not cave bear. so i'm going to use that first loopy big section for the neck. it will be big and dramatic and cover her face up to her eyes so it will be perfect for hauling beer through driving winds back to the warm cave. for the body of the sweater i'm laying the strands out relatively straight and sewing through them. here and there they cross and tangle so things are not too "perfect". i'm using and old sweater as a rough guide for size and shape. still haven't found the solvy. need to get my ass off the couch and down to the quilt shop. it's only a block away.

Stitches:
Thanks to everyone who dropped by to say hi!! what a freaking ZOO that place was! i had never been. as soon as i got there i went straight to the vintage button stand and filled my bowl with the 50 cent grabbers. man- awesome stuff!! old cracked leather buttons, metal ones with mythical creatures....green bakelite with gold rabbits!!!! and a see-through wolf face carved from bone. i was dying!! when i went to pay i opened up my wallet and my debit card was gone! it was either my husband or my hairdresser who had it...but either way- i had to walk away from those amazing treasures. very very very very very very very very sad.....

Vancouver!

Lots of email coming in for this. thanks guys!! i am super slow answering right now...but i'll reply soon. want to read every option then figure out what will work best.

Sewing the first panel for the front of the sweater. will hand felt those rough edges together along the seam.

OMG! Lexi, I laughed so hard I ended up choking in a fit of coughing and hacking up flem. I've been sick the past week as well and can completely identify with the primal screams of children while being incapacitated.

Hey- maybe we can plan a Camp Pluckyfluff Alaska in summer 2009. You'll have to bring your fly rod- the salmon will be running thick end of July early August!
