Just Because It's Hard-Times Doesn't Mean It Can't Be Fun-Times!

Out of gas? Rent due and hours cut back? No one bidding on your auctions?  Have you told the cat he's on his own for dinner tuesday, thursday and sunday nights- go catch a mouse or somethin? Well, welcome to the clinically recessed club. But i'll tell you what , I've had it. I've had it with you Recession! and you can look me in the eye when I say this....i ain't-a gunna play your game n'more!  I ain't playin no more and you know what spinners? you shouldn't either. As a big 'In Your Eye' to the recession I have decided to make my hometown, Hangtown CA workshop a PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN class. That means...if you can pay the full tuition, well, do so! If you can't then pay less or pay none but contribute to the workshop with whatever you can muster be it extra fiber, yummy potluck dishes or your boyfriend's home-brew. Wish I could do it for all my classes but this one I don't have to buy a plane ticket to get to, i just got to stumble out of bed in the morning. It's coming up quick so enroll or email me soon. (If you've already enrolled you'll have a chance to re-think it...don't worry)

WORKSHOP AND CLASS INFO IS HERE ON THE WEBSITE.

The Screw-You Recession! WORKSHOP
at Boeger Winery
1709 Carson Rd.
Placerville, CA

Nov 6th and 7th, 2010
10-5pm
$200 or whatever you can do

This workshop will be held outside on the beautiful, historic Gold-Rush grounds of Boeger Winery. There is room to camp if you want but be fore-warned IT'S RUSTIC. And by that i mean no showers and no campfires. I have a fire pit that the group can use and there are bathrooms. I'd say space is limited....but only if we need more than 70 acres. What I will run out of however is fiber and snacks, so be prepared with some sharing items! This ought to be fun, if Woodstock were a spinning camp.....

We will be spinning on the patio there.

See how happy spinning camp can make you!

Many interesting lessons will be taught! (Just ask the Kiwi's)

Novelho Plying!

The rumors that I was abducted by a pack of transatlantic werewolf pirates are not true. My brother got married last weekend and I was helping coordinate and though being held prisoner by foul smelling monsters is preferable to nuptial arrangements such was not my fate. But the 'do's' are done and i have been hiding in a hole for three days spinning! here are a couple of new yarns for sale on the Yarn Page.

NOVELHO

This is my new most favorite thing EVER, and i suggest you all try it if you haven't already. Know how to Navaho ply? Better learn! Once you get the basics down try doing it with and extremely thick AND thin single. It's like doing a drug that you wake up the next day from feeling even higher.

4.6 oz
44yds bulky

This one is a natural grey wool with big sections in semi-felted wool bubbles. Three-plied wool bubbles? yes....yes it's true.

SUHZZY
2.2 oz
24yds bulky
$45

For this one I used recycled sari silk as a core and spun sheer white wool around it. Then fulled it so it all melded together. also fun...

DOPE ROPE! mmmmmm....i am so i love with this stuff... fiber, wool, felty bits..

At the moment i just can't get enough of spinning. and i don't have any words to describe the LUST i'm feeling over this ginormous yarn (er...rope) i spun on the Aura all through the night. the pictures don't even show....it's huge! and felty and soft and there's even grass in it from the sheep.

(for sale on the YARN PAGE, along with more norwegian greasy yummy yarn)

DOPE ROPE
One fat single in multi-colored wool plied with a rope-like single spun from matted felted fleece that got screwed up in a bad scouring. love those mistakes....

Ahhhh.... The Second Honeymoon...

How had i gotten so apathetic about spinning? it just sneaks in on an artist sometimes and before you know it you're just going through the motions. it's been that way for quite awhile. BUT....no more. thanks to Norway i think! I just spent a solid day spinning all the amazing native scandanavian wool that was gifted by my lillehammer students. (will post tomorrow). but what i'm MOST excited about are these installations i'm doing with the yarn. i think i've finally actually morphed into a spider, because now not only do i spin but i'm creating webs in corners and and walls. I am dying to get these into more gallery situations which has me laughing because i have been so anti art scene forever. it's one reason why i went craft to begin with. but i'm over it. i'm an artist weather i like it or not and it feels like this is finally a very natural transforming of craft into art.

is anyone in bed with any curators? time for some good old fashioned nepotism.... tell them to show YARN!!

METAL BAT
This started out trying to be a general bat shape and ended up so metal. This is in a friend's living room. my new dream is to be commissioned to go into individual spaces, spin a specific yarn and install it into the space however the space dictates. Girl's gotta have goals!
(excuse the crappy iphone pic quality...it's all i had at 3 in the morning...)
